Happy Birthday dear Michael!

Today is my son Michael’s birthday . . . October 24, 1980 . . . the day I first became a mother!  This letter is for you dear Michael . . . Happy Birthday!

Dear Michael,

You inspired me with your heart and gave me the blessed title “Mom” for the first time. I can remember bringing you home from the hospital like it was yesterday. It was a sacred time bonding with you in those early weeks . . . knowing God had entrusted me with this miracle at my tender age of 21. Looking down at your tiny hand wrapped around my finger, I realized the largeness of my responsibility. I prayed that I could be a mom that you were worthy of.

Today I feel so grateful as a parent to have helped raise someone so wonderfully witty and caring and profound. I now treasure this time in my life where you are my friend and my son! I love spending time with you in nature, love talking about plants and gardening with you, and love love love eating your amazing dinners!!! Michael you have blessed me with your huge heart and intelligent mind!

Some days I miss that tiny baby and the sweet chubby toddler that you were! It seems as if one day I reached out to kiss you on the cheek and suddenly had to look up instead of reach down . . . my baby boy was now a grown man. It is humbling, beautiful and exciting  . . .yet bittersweet for me. As I close, remember that no matter where your journey leads you in this life, I will be there to support and love you . . . as a mother and as a friend. You truly are a gift to me . . . enjoy your day!

I love you, Mom

I love you dear family . . . thank you for your love. . . “You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you” . . . Yachats is truly “The Gem of the Oregon Coast” . . . this small coastal town’s main feature is an undisturbed crescent of sparkling beach with roaring heads of white foam bouncing off craggy rocks jutting out of the ocean. My hope is to return and stay for a few nights . . . enjoy the eateries, glass shops, and simply beachcomb . . . yes, I have a love for small charming towns near the water . . . “Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey” . . . Pat Conroy

I love love love the Hobbit Trail . . . this enchanting wooded trail with green velvet trees and moss underfoot opens to the most divine beach! The lush greenness of the vegetation and the quirky bent trees add to the magic! Serene and peaceful . . . “Come to the woods, for here is rest. There is no repose like that of the green deep woods” . . . John Muir
